Pronunciation

lor-AHNListen

Laurent is a French form of a Latin name, pronounced lor-AHN, and it means 'from Laurentum,' an ancient Italian city. You'll often see it simplified to 'laurel,' but that's not quite right: the name points to the town, and the town's own name was linked to the laurel tree, so the laurel connection is indirect rather than a direct translation.
