Pronunciation

lee-uh-NOR-ahListen

Leonora is an Italian short form of Eleonora, making it a cousin to Eleanor rather than a name with a separate origin story of its own. You may come across the claim that it means "light" or "shining," but that gloss actually comes from a disputed folk etymology tied to Eleanor — Eleanor's own root meaning isn't settled either. It's a romantic, storybook pick, pronounced lee-uh-NOR-ah.
