Pace is pronounced PAYS, and it works well as a name for a boy or a girl. It comes from an English surname with disputed roots — some trace it to a medieval byname for a child born at Easter, and it's often assumed to mean "peace," though surname historians say that link isn't as direct as it sounds. Either way, it's a short, modern name with an English surname behind it.
Meaning & Origin of Pace
Meaning: Uncertain — possibly a medieval byname for someone born at easter (via old french/latin pascha), sometimes reinterpreted as 'peace' (latin pax).
Origin: English (surname, root disputed).
A common claim: peace (from Latin/Italian pace) Actually: As an English surname, Pace more often traces to a medieval byname for a child born at Easter (via Pascha) than to Latin 'pax' (peace) — the 'peaceful' meaning is a plausible but unconfirmed folk gloss.
