VANListen

Van is an English name most often used as a short, standalone form or nickname rather than a name with one fixed meaning of its own. Some lists claim it means 'God is gracious,' but that meaning actually comes from Ivan or Evan — Van by itself doesn't carry that meaning, and it isn't inherently Russian or Welsh either. Short and easy to say (VAN, rhymes with 'can'), it fits parents drawn to clean, modern, minimalist names.

Meaning & Origin of Van

Origin: English (nickname/short form).

A common claim: Van is often said to mean 'God is gracious.' Actually: That meaning only applies when Van shortens Ivan or Evan (both ultimately from Hebrew 'God is gracious'); Van itself has no single fixed meaning and isn't inherently Russian or Welsh, as some listicles claim.
