Pronunciation

JAZ-minListen

Jasmine (pronounced JAZ-min) is a Persian name that simply refers to the jasmine flower — despite what some baby-name sites claim, it doesn't mean 'gift from God'; that gloss belongs to an entirely different name. It's a classic pick with a worldly, nature-loving feel, fitting for parents drawn to names with roots outside the everyday.

Meaning & Origin of Jasmine

Meaning: Named after the jasmine flower.

Origin: Persian.

A common claim: Some baby-name sites claim Jasmine means 'gift from God.' Actually: That's not accurate — Jasmine simply refers to the jasmine flower (from Persian yasmin via Arabic and French); the 'gift from God' gloss belongs to a different name family, not this one.
