WIL-merListen

Wilmer is an Old English/Germanic name built from two roots: 'will' and 'famous,' giving it a sense closer to 'famed for one's determination' rather than simply 'a strong-willed man,' as it's sometimes described. That distinction matters if you're drawn to the name for its meaning — it's less about willpower itself and more about being known for it.

Meaning & Origin of Wilmer

Meaning: Will/desire + famous — roughly 'famed for one's determination'.

Origin: Old English/Germanic.

A common claim: Commonly glossed as 'a strong-willed man.' Actually: The roots are 'will' + 'famous' (i.e., famed for one's determination), not directly 'strong-willed' — a subtle but real difference in the compound's sense.
