Mack is a short, bold boy's name with Scottish and Irish roots, pronounced MAK. It works as a nickname or short form for Gaelic 'Mac-' names like Mackenzie or Malcolm, carrying that prefix's 'son of' sense. You may see Mack itself described as meaning 'son of,' but that's not quite accurate — the 'son of' meaning belongs to the Gaelic 'Mac-' prefix in the longer names Mack shortens, not to Mack as a standalone word.
