Earthy Middle Names for Girls
While you really can use any name that you like as a middle name, after putting together over 100 lists of middle name pairings, I’ve come to find that there are certain names that are super versatile when used as middle names.
Here are my fav, go-to middle names for girls that have an earthy feel:
Rae
One syllable names work so well for middle names, and I love the double entendre of this also meaning ray, as in, a ray of sunshine.
Cove
A short, modern earthy girl’s name, the name Cove is still very unique, but it is definitely becoming more common. I love the idea of pairing the name Cove with a more classic first name. Together, the pairing creates such a pretty, contemporary feel.
Isla
The soft i and a of the name Isla work so well with many different names and the -a ending can add a beautiful, feminine touch to a more gender neutral first name, like Lennon or River.
Coraline
If you’re looking for a longer middle name, I love the idea of using Coraline. An alternative to Coral, the -ine ending is supremely feminine.
Raya
A modern pick, the name Raya is on the rise. I like to think of it as an alternative to the name Rae, and consider it to be an image of the sun’s rays.
Wren
A great one syllable pick. I especially love the idea of pairing this name with a first name that starts with a vowel, like Adeline, Eloise or Isla.
Rose
A super classic pick, this flower name is one of the most commonly used middle name picks.
Ayla
Meaning oak tree, or with the moon, the soft vowels of this name pair really well with a first name with strong consonants.
Margot
This pretty, classic name is pronounce mar-go and would pair really beautifully with a first name that has an old fashioned feel like Maeve or Mattea.
Opal
This gemstone baby name is totally earthy, but also sounds just right thanks to its vintage grandma vibes.
Vale
This one syllable name means valley and is a more modern choice for Gail.
Ocean
A contemporary earthy girl’s name, Ocean is a beautiful choice for modern mamas.
Aurora
The repeating soft o and r sounds and the -a ending make this earthy name for girls a super versatile pick. Some of my favourite combinations are Isla Aurora, Ivy Aurora, Wrenley Aurora, Aspen Aurora
Ivy
While its been commonly used as a first name for decades, I would be steer clear of using Ivy as a middle name for any names that are a color or adjective, or another flower, like Scarlett, August or Poppy.
(Even though Beyoncé would argue the opposite…)
Linnea
I love pairing the name Linnea with girl’s names that start with an a, o, or e and include an l such as Olivia, Everly, or Adeline.
Lennon
One of my favourite style of names to pair with earthy names is names with hippie vibes. This Woodstock-inspired wonder is of Irish origin and means dear one.
Soleil
Pronounced so-lay, this pretty French name means sun. Love it, but not quite sold on using it as a first name? Using it as a middle name is the perfect choice.
Sage
Soaring up the charts, this well-loved baby name is being used for both boys and girls. A great middle name choice if you love it, but feel its a little too popular to use as a first name.
Wrapping Up
Whether you’re a hiking enthusiast, or a salty-haired sea-lover, there truly are so many ways to share that special piece of yourself with your little.
So go ahead and let your inner flower power shine through with a name like Poppy or Daisy. Or embrace your inner stargazer with a cosmic-inspired name like Nova or Celeste.
No matter which one of these earthy girl names ends up making your shortlist, whichever one you choose will be the perfect fit for your baby girl because you’re the one who chose it!
Happy naming, mama.
